piojo

Here’s a Spanish word I wish I hadn’t had to learn…piojo. Louse. We had a great three-day weekend up in the Basque country, marred only by the discovery, upon arrival home, of an infestation on both girls’ heads. We spent Tuesday making use of the local pharmacy’s over-the-counter remedy, which seemed to work for Phoebe but not for Margo. Phoebe went to school today, but Margo stayed home for another application and more hours of scrutiny with the nit comb. What a pain. The worst part is having to launder all the bedding and clothing (Bill turned up the heat on the water heater) with no dryer! The racks outside are filled until evening, when we bring everything in for the damp night. We are now living in a walk-in clothes dryer with sheets, blankets, towels, and hooded sweatshirts draped over every chair and door. It smells good but it’s hard to find a place to sit.

The girls are now expert at the kids’ games on Headlice.org. I’m not making this up.
